It is a silver coin and it has a portrate of a man on the front. It has some sort of writing on it that includes triangles and strange looking E's.

My guess is you have a coin from Greece. The triangles could be the greek character 'deltas' or 'lambdas' and the strange E's could be 'sigmas'. You can search for coins from greece on yahoo images for example. Face value is normally on the coin itself, unless in foreign language. Market value of the coin depends on the coin condition, rarity and demand. Also, coins that have the 'silvery' look may not have any silver content; could be made of nickel or copper-nickel alloy.

Actually you don't give enough info, so all answers are guesses. Re-ask the question giving what is on both sides in detail. Yes it could be Greek but that leaves a big field open.
