George W. Bush. Ask your family and neighbors who are out of work, have friends who died in his stupid war, or can't get medicine because it is cost prohibitive.

The worst President this country has even seen is clearly George W. Bush. It isn't even close.
Richard Nixon was a crook but was at least a smart guy who started cancer research and opened up dialogue with China. Herbert Hoover presided over the worst economic situation the country has ever had and clearly did not handle it well but much of the problem was out of his hands. The mess that George Bush has made is almost completely of his own making. The problem begins with his complete lack of intellectual curiosity; it is beyond the fact that he just isn't very smart...he didn't have the ability or will to learn about the world around him...his rise to power was largely done for him by rich and powerful friends of his father's. He failed at every job he had before entering politics. Then, his religious dogma and conservatism fostered an even more narrow view of the world and the complex forces that a president must deal with...that led to the formation of the worst cabinet and set of advisors that the country has ever seen...ideologues stuck in cold-war era thinking and religous fervor that taints their judgement. That led us to an irresponsible tax cut for the rich that has served to eliminate a large surplus created by the Clinton adminstration and to an exploding deficit that our grandchildren will be paying for...all to give his corporate buddies more money while the number of Americans falling into poverty skyrockets. He then started a planned assualt on the nation's environmental laws and policies that has done more harm in the last eight years than all the environmental degration that occured in the previous 100 years. He refused to sign the Kyoto Accords and has completely ignored all of the proven science about global warming. That leads us to the ill-conceived and planned war on Iraq. He held meetings before 911 even happened about starting a war in Iraq. He then used the patriotic will built up by 911 to start a unprovoked war with a soverign country (an unprecendented move in all our histroy) and used The State of Union address to justify the war by telling us lies about WMD capabilities in Iraq and mythical ties to Al Qaeda (that is treason by the way). He and Donald Rumsfeld then put together a completely unrealistic and, yes, stupid, plan for the war and the resulting "reconstruction"...just a Bush word for "let's make our rich friends richer again." The countless "mistakes", scandals, and death that has accompanied this little folly of his in Iraq is unprecedented...literally hundreds of billions in no-bid contracts. He has since gone on to ignore the Contstitution of the United States of America, the Geneva Accords, and many other international treaties that keep our citizens and soliders safe around the world. He authorised a phone-tapping operation on unknowing US citizens and has approved the torture and abuse of prisoners in US custody (again unprecendented in the history of the country.) His approval ratings are the worst that any presdient has ever had and he has completely lost the confidence of not just democrats and independents but the large majoirity of moderate republicans as well...the only ones that still defend him are the conservative ideologues. The worst part of all of this is that he has significantly diminsihed the US' role and reputation around the globe, with friends and foes alike. His behavior in office is as if he were a young naive King who was thrust into office and then acts like a petulant child when he doesn't get his way. He entered office saying he was "a uniter not a divider." No one person has ever done more to divide this country than George W. Bush.
George Bush is the worst president in the history of the country.

Wow, it appears as if no one knows anything about the history of the Presidents. The worst President technically was Harding. He was responsible for scandles (Teapot Dome, biggest in US history), led the U.S. into isolationism and rejected Wilsonian policy.
After Harding was Buchanan or (Old Buck) because really no one side before the Civil War was willing to give ground to another sides politician (North and South), so who did they agree to choose? Buchanan, the Prime Minister to England.....He did nothing and under him was responsible for the secession of SEVEN states from the Union before Lincoln took over. His indecisiveness really hurt his rep.
From there, it would have to be Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant (scadalmania and not too bright)

I think that the absolute worst President was Warren G. Harding. He was completely incompetent and corrupt, and he is widely recognized as a complete failure. My second choice would have to be Calvin Coolidge. He did almost nothing during his term, and he is partially at fault for the great depression.
In the past few decades, the worst President is George W. Bush.

Andrew Johnson hands down.
Andrew Johnson is largely viewed as the worst possible person to have been President at the end of the Civil War. He utterly failed to make a satisfying and just peace because of his racist views, his gross incompetence in federal office, and his incredible miscalculation of public support for his policies. One can only sadly speculate about how different America would have been had Lincoln lived to see the country through the critical period of Reconstruction. In the end, Johnson did more to extend the period of national strife than to heal the wounds of war.

Dubya is definitely among the worst according to polls.
Ranking at the bottom of most polls are Warren G. Harding, Andrew Johnson, Franklin Pierce and James Buchanan. In recent public polls, George W. Bush has been ranked low.

Andrew Jackson, he defied a suprem court order which declared the Indian Removal act unconstitutional, and he dispalced five civilized tribes contributing to the death of many loyal American Indians, who incidently saved his life at New Oreleans. He also insituted the "spoils" system where as civil servents were appointees friends and cronies replacing the merit system for advancement in government.

This believe it or not is a hard Question cuz so many have been given either a "bad" rap or a good one they did not deserve!
All- in -all I would say ;
G. W. Bush: for his Iraq Policy
Regan: for his "trickle down economy"
Carter: for his foreign policy
Kennedy : for getting us further in to the Viet Nam War
Lincoln: for the Civil War
