SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test

ACT stands for American College Test

They both are tests that you must take if you want to apply to a decent university.

The SAT Reasoning Test, also called the SAT I, is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States. The SAT is administered by the private Educational Testing Service (ETS) in the United States and is developed, published, and scored by the College Board.

The initials SAT have been used since the test was first introduced in 1901, when it was known as the Scholastic Achievement Test. The test was used mainly by colleges and universities in the northeastern United States. Its purpose was to test native knowledge as a way of keeping minorities and foreigners out of colleges. In 1941, after considerable development, the College Board changed the name to the Scholastic Aptitude Test. In 1990, the name was changed to Scholastic Assessment Test. Finally, in 1994, the name was changed to SAT.

The ACT, formerly the ACT Assessment, is a college-entrance achievement test produced by ACT, Inc. It emerged in 1959 as a competitor to the College Board's Scholastic Aptitude Test, now the SAT Reasoning Test. ACT originally stood for American College Testing, but was officially changed to just ACT in 1996.[1] In February 2005, an optional writing test was added to the ACT, mirroring changes to the SAT later that year. Almost every college in the U.S. accepts and treats the ACT and SAT equally.

SAT, used to stand for the Scholastic Aptitude Test but then they realized that it doesn't actually test your aptitude but only tests how well you know how to take the test. There was a bit of a controversy over that so now it doesn't stand for anything.

That's how screwed up the test is! They didn't even get the name right! (im a little bitter over my scores hahaha)

Well they both stand for pointless/meaningless/waste of your time test. I didn't do so well on them but i still got into a four year university and have a 3.77 GPA right now. So if you're about to take it don't think so much about it just do what you do on normal test and you'll be fine.
