Porgy and Bess is considered so racist! even during those times it was offensive to blacks. So to show a movie like that now a dayz would just open up old wounds...

Spike Lee made a movie called BAMBOOZLED it depicts ***** actors of that time and how we had to act based on stereotypes.
Actually, Harry Belafonte SHOULD show that film to all of these youngsters w/ their pants round their knees, and talking street language.
They are acting no different than those stereotypes we are trying to change....

Why would Harry Belafonte have anything to do with holding the rights? He wasn't the owner/producer of the film. Actors usually have no say about the sale of their films.

Although no DVD is available, the film is shown periodically on Turner Classic Movies. You can go to http://www.tcmdb.com/title/title.jsp?stid=86938 and vote to have it released on DVD (right side of screen).
