I'm doing a short presentation on rocks and minerals, and need some visual aids for my class. I've had no luck on ebay(only polished samples and jewelry come up). Any ideas on where I can buy some online or otherwise??

Another rockhound!
All of these suggestions are good, although gathering rocks from the ground will be limited to the rocks that are available in your area, quartzite, granite, feldspar, or whatever is prevalent in your area. So it will be interesting to identify rocks in your area but will probalby make for a very small presentation.

University geology dept is good, also try putting rough mineral specimens in your favorite search engine. One site that comes to mind is Some Like It Rough.

As for rock shops, try and get it local, if you can. If you live in or near a city you can find a rock shop in the yellow pages. Look under Rocks, Lapidary, etc. Local businesses are hurting from people ordering too much online. Better yet, you can see what you're getting, pick the specimen you like best, and you don't have to pay for shipping.

The Audubon Society field instruction manual to North American Rocks and Minerals by using Charles W. Chesterman this is my sought after. It includes somewhat some advice and sparkling photos. Any good e book shop could carry it.

The best area I found to have a large area of minerals and rocks
is the Land O Pines Campgrounds in Covington, Louisiana. You
will (maybe) also find arrow heads and fossils.,The name of the river is simalusa...which runs into the Little Borga Fayaya river...
where the rivers meet is the Bouga Fayaya river (head waters)

Call your local university. Many times the geology department will lend out samples or send a professor to speak to your class.

look in the local yellow pages for a rock shop. im sure there is one or two in your area. they will have alot of raw specimens for really cheap, a quarter or a dollar. im sure you will be surprised with what they have available in the rock shops. it is really interesting trip to take. good luck and happy new years.
