This is a very complicated answer because "it depends." It depends on who your cable provider is, who you have for DSL, how far your home is from a DSL station, how many other people near you have cable, and, of course, how much each one costs in your area.
Your uncle and the DSL salesperson are correct - cable can be inhibited by the number of people on a node. But they probably didn't mention that DSL has a different problem that is just as big of a concern - the farther your home is from the nearest DSL station, the worse your connection will be (and slower).
It also depends on who the companies are. Some companies invest lots of money to make their networks very fast even though lots of people are using them, and some don't. From personal cable experience, Charter is horrible and Time Warner/Road Runner is mediocre. BellSouth DSL is pretty good, but EarthLink DSL is not all that great.
Finally, it does depend on how much it costs. If the DSL companies are only mediocre and charging 55/month, and the cable companies are mediocre and charging 45/month, then go with cable.
The best way to find out is to ask your neighbors and other people in the area who have been using it for awhile.

She's only partially right. You have to share the cable connection with your neighbor, but you also share the TV signal too and have you ever seen your tv picture freeze, stutter or standing still ??? There is plenty of bandwith to go around. Now, she also conveniently forget to tell you something about your DSL line. In order to get a good signal, you have to live near a central broadcast station for DSL and the further away you're from the central hub the worse your download/upload speed is going to be.It's the same principle as wireless. It's up to you to decide which is best for you. Check the price and see if there are any difference. Make sure you compare the download/upload speed. In general, Cable has a faster download speed and DSL has a faster upload speed.

It relies upon on the place you reside, in case you reside in a crowded region you've cable and this is alot slower than dsl, and in case you reside in a close by with much less inhabitants and have cable connection this is quicker than dsl.

cable is faster, more reliable, plus you do not have to sign a contract, DSL they try to lock you in, thats not cool. You have to be locked in for sorry service... You might pay more with cable, but you will be happy.

That's true.
I hate my cable company with every fiber of my being. The last thing I'm going to do is let them near my internet. I've never had a problem with my phone company. 'Nuff said.
