While saline breast implants are considered to be safe, even the FDA will admit that long term affects are not known as studies have never been done.

Little known facts about breast implants:
1. they don't last a lifetime, they get replaced due to leaks, scar tissue building up around them making them hard and painful (many have to be replaced within 3 years)
2. mammograms become unreliable as the implants can block a clear view
3. breast feeding may not be possible as sometimes ducts are damaged during insertion of the implants

Be very sure to go to a surgeon who has a great reputation when it comes to doing breast implants. Feel free to ask the doctor for references and to see some before and after pictures of surgeries he has performed. This is your body and you want to be sure you are in capable hands.
