i have a 1993 ford explorer 4.0L 4 door 4x4
when ever its idling the battary gauge starts to flicker in the normal zone only and when i give it some gas it goes back to the place in the normal zone were it has allways been
is it a bad connection with the battary that can cause this or is it something eles?

This can be a number of things; It could be a bad guage, or it could be a bad ground, but it is most likely a bad voltage regulator in the alternator.

To answer the question yes. If the battery is old or needs water it will make the gage do that. What you really need to know is what the output of the alt is? Also check the battery connections and clean if corroded. Beshure thy are tight. If you can't clean them cut off the old clamps and put on new ones.

as long as it shows a normal charge, when vehicle is moving don't worry.the sligt fluctuatins show the altornator is ok.

When it drops down into the discharge zone ,and will not come back, then there is trouble with the charging system.
