Fear is the opposite of love. Hate is a by-product of fear. This is why "fearing" god is misleading. If you need to act like you love someone (and yes, it can be done) when you really don't, then you have ulterior motives. Perhaps you are afraid of losing other benefits of the relationship?

I believe that love and hate are not opposites. They are both strong emotions that can fluctuate unpredictably, and show involvement. The opposite is indifference. Having no emotional buy in in a relationship is impossible to conceal.
Don't know why we are dealing with this in Astronomy, but the stars can make you wistful.

emotions are difficult things to fake.
Try not to kid yourself, when its not there.... it wont be there.
