Should I get 3 female bettas with 1 male, 4 female bettas with no male, 4 females with 1 or 2 males, or 4 males with no females? (I know you can't put males in the same tank! Don't say it please! I hate when people say it when I already know it and tell them not to say it!) Feel free to make up any of your own combo's. Thanks!

you have to have at least 3 or 4 females in 1 tank because if you only have 2, there is a good chance that one of the female bettas will gang up on the other one. Another thing is, a male betta doesn't care if it's alone because if you put in another one in the same tank, he will still technically be alone because one of them will kill the other one. Bettas are called Siamese Fighting Fish and they fight till one dies!

HOLLY CRAP NO!

There are a lot of fish "experts" out there that will tell you otherwise. Most of these people were taught what they know by doing it themsleves and getting lucky, or hearing it from someone else.

Females bettas are fine together, but you should NEVER, AND I DO MEAN NEVER EVER put a male betta with any other betta, male or female. If the female is not ready to spawn, he will kill her. Even then, they come out of the mating game pretty beat up. Both of them. If you do not know how to breed bettas, I wouldn't attempt it without success keeping the fish first.

I'm not trying to be rude here, but in all seriousness, read a book on bettas. There are a lot of people out here that know jack crap about bettas but still feel the need to offer an opinion.

Female bettas will fight in a crowded space. As long as you have about five gallons per female with a hiding spot for each, you're good. Males can be housed with non-gourami community fish. However, they have been know to fin nip long finned fish.

Get the ladies, skip the boyfriend. P.S. fish don't get lonely and they don't feel love. They just have instinct on how to surrvive. Bettas are solitary fish.

i would get 2 males and 2 females that way you have the same of each number and they are not alone..... like if you get 3 of males and 1 of females then the female is all alone.... it would be nice for each of them to have a friend in the tank

Get six males and put them into the same tank then take the last surviving male and gift him with a dozen females. Different colors for variety of course. You don't want the champion male to get bored with the same color females. Feed him well, he's going to need it.

ill go with 3 females and one male, as the males wont try to keep mating with the female. or that the male wont bash the other male.
