I just have this terrible fear of change when it comes to my job situation and I know i need a new job I am just very reluctant to look for one and or apply for one mainly because I believe I lack self confidence.

Honestly, there is no way to conquer fear but to just face it. If you absolutely HAVE to find a new job, then just do it. If it's not really necessary, then don't. But, you are most likely selling yourself short as far as what you are capable of doing. By doing what you fear (change) and coming out victorious (landing a great job), your self-confidence will soar. You can do anything you really want to do. But, you'll never know unless you do it. The best to you!!

think of it this way. you must be unhappy where you are now. if you get a new job and it sucks, it couldn't suck any more than what you have now. so how could it hurt to try? if the new job stinks, start looking until you find another. lack of self confidence is very common and i bet you would be surprised how many people feel the same way, including myself! but as i said, what is the worst that could happen? you don't like your new job? you are already in that situation!!! you are not any good at it? pretty much the same thing as not liking it---you simply move on. i've heard it said that failure is god's way of telling you that no, this isn't for you. dooesn't mean you are a stupid or bad person, because no one is good at everything! just move on and try something different---and try to have fun! life is too short to spend all of it filled with anxiety. i tell myself this all the time to try to overcome this garbage, that and yoga breathing. good luck and remember---deep, lower belly breaths.

I'm a big "comfort zone' guy who does not like unwanted change, and I just tell myself the following:

1) Changes are ALWAYS going to come.

2) They usually are unexpected, so it's hard to prepare for something you don't expect. You can spend the rest of your days trying to have a contingency plan for every single thing that could conceivably happen.

3) You just react as accordingly as possible with as common-sense an approach as you can. Necessity will dictate the day.
