Knowledge. Experience. Technology. Perhaps even wisdom. The only thing we know for certain is that to remain still is to stagnate and die. Space exploration may turn out to be the one thing that saves us from extinction.

I guess they asked Columbus, Edmund Hillary, Admiral Byrd, the Wright Brothers and the entire western expansion of the US the same questions.
It's in the nature of humans to go where on one has gone before.
Sometimes it works out, sometimes not. But people remain undeterred nonetheless. There will always be advocates for space exploration, just because it's there, and can be done. And because it's never been done.

IMO? Resources. Intelligence. Possibly even the chance to continue our race as a whole. Eventually we will outstrip this planet in resources and livable area (although that's a LONG way away) and the only way we will survive is to travel somewhere else.

Nothing but an expensive/dangerous road trip...an excuse to drink Tang and powdered bologna and cheese sandwhiches!!
