Yes, the tacks are real. They might get the crappy kind that bend or break easily, but they're real tacks. You can't really gimmick thumbtacks (yes, that "spring-loaded thumbtack" theory is hogwash) but you CAN tip barbed wire. In one interesting story, Mick Foley mentioned that in his cage match with HHH, Helmsley used real, metal barbed wire on Foley, but Triple H had to have the rubber tipped wire used on him and didn't want Foley using the real stuff. Didn't want to break a nail, I guess. Yes, the blood is real. No, there is no such thing as a "blood capsule." Yes, chair shots are real, but guys usually get their hands up to absorb at least some of the impact. The WM match between Edge and Foley was a legit thumbtack match. That look of extreme pain on Edge's face when he took the backdrop onto the tacks? That's legit. I've seen thousands of matches, and I've been trained as a wrestler - he's not "selling the bump" there. There was an image of a man in shock. He was done the rest of the match, and it quickly ended after.

Yes they do use real thumb tacks. Mick Foley talked about them in his book HAVE A NICE DAY, and in his HELL IN THE CELL MATCH with the Undertaker he used the tacks and you can see where they stuck to his body and costume and where they drew blood. In Mick Foley's feud with Randy Orton, in there match on the PPV Orton wound up covered with hundreds of tacks which drew blood, and stuck to his body for the rest of the match. The next night on Raw the zoomed in on him and you could still see the marks from where the tacks were. The tacks are real, and from all accounts they do hurt, but not all that much and they do not do any real damage, but they do look cool.

Thumbtacks tend to be real, although I know WWE and WCW both used to use rubber tipped barbed wire to kinda help avoid serious lacerations. Anyway, thumbtacks may be treated the same way, but I doubt it.

Thumbtacks have been quite overdone in recent years though, and it's lost some of it's pizazz.

If you want to see some disgusting thumbtack usage however, check out BJ Whitmer vs. Necro Butcher from ROH earlier this year....

Necro wrestles barefoot....ouch!

A friend of mine was in WWE up until he got hit over the head with a metal chair. Yes, the thumbtacks are REAL but the don't cause you any more pain than a needle in a doctors office, and the trick is that they're spread out so close they don't really pentrate, only one or two - it's just like the Asian Indian Fakirs who used to lie on a bed of nails. The forces are evenly distributed so you don't get really hurt.

Generally ;)

Wrestling is not fake, just its storylines are pre-written.
because TV programs are pre-written does that make them fake? i think not.

Just read Eddie Guerrero's book, Cheating Death, Stealing Life: the Eddie Guerrero story. he says about the way he was treated and all the critisism he had by saying wrestling is fake. he talks about the fact that moves are done to look good, but to "look after" you opponent in the ring so not to hurt them. Eddie Guerrero's dad was the one who taught him thats. (RIP Eddie)

yes the thumbtacks are real, you can see teh blood and penitrations from them.

Its not real. I heard from a website its a modified version of thumbtacks where a spring is inside instead of sharp edge.It just sticks there for a few minutes then let go. Imagine a real thumbtack, im sure many will not fight or even act in wwe.

(Exception for boogeyman in smackdown. He is eating real live worms.)

Yes it is real, because most of it is fake but some of it is real. Like the suplexes and high flying manuvers.
