Hey, It's winter here in Toronto. It's really cold in the solarium (solarium is in the apartment). I have been keeping my birds in my sister's room but she's getting mad so now I have to put it in my room since there is no more big spaces in the apartment.|||| How do I make it warmer in the solarium (28 degree celcius) without doing anything to the surrounding walls?||||| Also, I need a cheap way!

I live just outside of Detroit and we, too, have a solarium. We had a commercial-grade space heater tucked into the brick wall to save on floor space. You could use a portable space heater, I would think. They take a lot of electrical energy to run but that's probably your best solution. We keep our bird cage out there with a store-bought bird's nest in the cage so the birds can retreat inside it to stay warm. We also cover the cage at night when the temp. dips into the 40's (F) and below. The birds will huddle together, we've noticed, to stay warm. We have finches that are accustomed to tropical weather so we definitely have to keep the room relatively warm. I honestly don't think that the heat generated from a heat lamp would be sufficient to heat the entire room, but maybe just the area near the cage (?). Too, remember that heat rises so we hung our cage just above eye-level.

I think the cheapest way to make solarium warm (28 degreed celcius), is to have it with the lights on all the time during the night and some intermediun time during the day.
