John Quincy Adams, Rutherford B. Hayes, Benjamin Harrison, and George W Bush.

EDIT: "5 presidents have failed in the popular vote
everyone forgets Lincoln"

More people voted against Lincoln than for Lincoln, but no candidate got more votes than him.

EDIT2: "I know for sure that Al Gore got 500,000 more popular votes then G. Bush and John Kerry also received more votes the G. Bush."

Gore got 500K more votes than Bush, but Bush got 3 million more votes than Kerry.

currently at least in teh state im in and im sure most others... a county only tabulates votes until the point that a winner determined.. of course if its contested then they will have to go back and count them all and carefully.

point of bringning this up is if you actually did a complete and thorough count everywhere I would bet that alot of elections end up different.

Regarding the Electoral College system. well at its inception you were having people riding on horseback to collect voting results.
Collectin popular vote stats at that point in time could take forever.
In this technology age I do not see a reason that it shouldnt be popular vote. And small states not having a say.. Well remember its congress that makes the laws.. and small states are purposely over represented in the Senate for that very purpose.

I know for sure that Al Gore got 500,000 more popular votes then G. Bush and John Kerry also received more votes the G. Bush.

The Elector College should be done away with and the popular vote should prevail.

the problem with a system like that is that the smaller states in our union would have no voice in the election of a president. does it make sense the way it is? well i don't know, but our forefathers were a lot smarter than we are now. read the Constitution, pretty good for a bunch guys 200 years ago.
