Your soda addiction is really a sugar addiction.
I think that there are two paths you can take.
1. Progressively reduce your sugar intake, including other foods containing sugar.
2.Drink sugar free soda (diet). You might be able to convince your habitual part of your mind that your continuing your addiction. Meanwhile you'll be breaking your physical craving for soda.

Give her a cigarette every time She wants a soda, as a substitute; You never put down one addiction without picking up another. Everyone knows that soda is ten times more addictive than crack or heroin so be gentle with Her, that's a tough monkey on Her back that has taken down some strong People. For example George Washington was totally addicted to soda and died screaming for a bottle of lemon fizz in a sanatorium. Queen Victoria was also hooked on the demon soda, She had Her own portable soda fountain that Mr. Brown dispensed black currant bubbly ( Illegal now in Britain!!! ) by the ten gallon glass for HRH! It's a tough road Your cousins going to walk, good luck to You both!

Hi New York, Try to get her to start drinking juice. There's all kinds of juice to pick from. Another thing she can do also, Buy a bag of baby carrots, and when she wants a soda real bad, have her start eating the carrots. This will help some. I hope you have lots of luck with this. A Friend.

Soda is not an addiction, its a craving. Opium and Nicotine are addictions. Perhaps your cousin's blood sugar is low and she is is craving soda because it is high in carbohydrates. She probably eats a lot of junk food. Nevertheless, have her blood sugar tested. Her compulsive drinking of soda may be an underlying medical condition.

You have to cut back slowly. Take a can away from her a day and increase the amount of soda you take away each week. Replace it with a beverage she might like, such as water, tea,or koolaid. It's hard,so be supportive and when you are with her join her in not having soda.

firstly, thats nice of you to take concern of your cousin. but thank god she's not into alcohol. Send her some health brochures on the bad effects of excessive soda intake. i used to drink alot of soda but i switch to green tea and fruit juce now., its much healthier and slows down the ageing process. i switched mainly after i discovered that from health hand-outs at the hospitals and hospice

Try something a little healthier that still tastes good, like Gatorade or some kind of juice. Chocolate milk could work too.

If she drinks regular soda get her to switch to diet & then after awhile, caffeine free diet. If she must drink soda (as I do) at least caffeine-free diet is less damaging to one's health.
But nothing will work if she doesn't want to.

Tell her not to buy or drink it. Her "addiction" will be "cured" immediately. Self-indulgence is not a "disease."
