Ha ha, I got after my friend for doing that. They basically did not scroll all the way down the list so did not know it was there and they just chose that one.

Oh, and I chose Protestant.. so not all of us do that.

Protestants are protesting the Catholic religion/views. Other gives an option which is not a protest as much as a difference of belief. Would you list a Muslim as other because he "protests" Catholicism? Another reason is that there is a specific denomination called Protestants. If you do not belong to that denomination, then you belong to another one.

The Catholic church was the biggest game in town for centuries. King Henry VIII decided that the Catholics had it wrong about divorce and got tired of chopping of his old lady's heads when he didn't want them any more, so he started the Church of England. Other people thought that the King didn't have it all together either and protested. They formed their own churches which were grouped together as protestants

there are more kinds of Christians than Catholic and Protestant, and some do not have a "declared" sect.
