yes you can.... most of the games you cant play on 360 would be if they have the game out for the regular xbox as well.... such as madden or ncaa..... or call of duty 2 or 3... since those games are out for both systems you cant play them on the 360 unless you buy the 360 version...
there is also a list on xbox.com if you want to check some of the games... but you might want to test them out yourself and see if it works

Yes, there are several. Go to the website that the guy suggested, or you can even go to a Gamestop store where they will be able to print out a list for you. We used to have it.
