Nixon was not going to resign, but when Republicans told him that there were enough votes to impeach him, and that he would damage the country and the party if he stayed on, he finally relented and stepped down. what else was said behind closed doors and what deals might have been reached we were not told
Any election was far off as Nixon had won not too long before, so there were still two years left on his term. Ford served those two years as President and then was beaten by the Democrat Carter, many feel partly due to his having pardoned Nixon. So I think your conclusion is incorrect.

No, you are incorrect. President Nixon resigned because he would have probably been convicted in the impeachment trial. If he had been convicted and removed from office, then Vice President Ford would still have become President.
There was no election that was missed. The other thing is that President Nixon may have resigned for the good of the country, even if he believed he would not have been convicted. Even though Nixon did something that was illegal, he loved this country.
After his first run for office, there was known to be much corruption in the voting in Chicago. It's quite possible that Nixon actually won the election against John Kennedy. Nixon lost by a very slim margin.
If ther had been a recount in Illinois like there was in Florida after Gore lost, Nixon might have been declared the winner in Illinois and if that had been the case he would have won the entire country. He said he didn't want the country to go that long without a president and the problems that that would bring.
I really saw what he meant during the fiasco after the election between Gore and Bush.

Having lived through it, no, I do not agree with you. Nixon had no choice but to resign and he did so without the guarantee of a pardon. He would have been impeached and removed had he not resigned. President Ford sacrificed his future in the Oval office by pardoning Nixon and it was the right thing to do. The people realize that now, even if they didn't then. The sad part of the whole thing is that it allowed Jimmy Earl Carter to win the election and we were subjected to the worst presidency in our history. Under Carter and his redneck, alcoholic brother we became a laughingstock and his ineptness lead directly to the hostage-taking in Iran.

If the pardon made by President Ford was erroneous, the Democrats, people or the Congress at that time must have timely acted on the mistake rather than bringing it up nowadays when the issues was long foregone. There must be timeliness in the action being called for.

Nope. there was no deal making like this. He resigned because he as facing criminal charges and he was no longer able to lead this country. By pardoning Nixon the country was able to move on. and Address the problems at hand.

I disagree because as you state the democrats won anyway. Nixon resigned because he took responsibility for his actions and on the advice from his own party. Ford issued a pardon as a sign of forgiveness. And all presidents use pardons.

It doesn't matter...it is set in the constitution how and who takes over in case the president or vice president cannot serve. Agnue resigned and Ford was Speaker of the House and took that spot. So he was VP already. The rules are cast in concrete...to ensure the country goes on as is. It's not about "parties" it is for the future and well being of the country. A good thing.

This hypothesis is impossible.
There wouldn't have been an election even if Nixon had not resigned. Ford would have still become President after an impeachment and removal from office.

I too lived through this time and no it was not an honorable position that Ford took.
Nixon should of been punished and if he had been we would not have Republicans acting in an Imperial Presidency today.
Who was in charge during Nixons terms?
Well lets See:
Bush Sr. head of CIA, Kissinger a man with more blood on his hands than Hitler, Later on it was a man named Rumdsfeld, and Cheney. Baker was in there tighter than snot in a dry nose. Negroponte was just beginning his learning of tortue techniques. Feith Perle and the rest of the neo cons were the young turks of that time, Bush Jr was getting flamed by snorting coke and booze.
In other words the very same type and people were the power brokers then as are today.
Fords claim of healing nation took place one month after he asumed office but he was one of bloodiest men in our history by the DEC 7th go ahead to the Indonesian Presidnet to slaughter over 300,000 E, Timor citizens.
What did Ford send Indonesian President afterwards?
A package of golf balls.
Ford was part of same group planning for Pinochets arrival to power.
Ford was part of Argentine revolution and overthrow of its president.
What Ford did was say lets move on because the people around Nixon did not want the truth of their illegal actons and installation of means to become an Imperial Presidnecy to get out.By his actions he allowed the coup to succeed on usurping the powers of congress by the Executive Branch.
The crimes done by Nixon were known by elected oficials and appointed ones also yet not one of them is mentioned even though they were involved in impeachable offenses.
"Lets Just move on."
Next Ford when he was speaker tried to get a Supreme Court Justice impeached because the Democrats had not voted for two of Nixons Court choices.
"his Reasoning as spoken on floor"?
"That anyone was impeachable by a vote of the majority and crime had no need to be asigned in order for it to be done."
This is the great and honorable man we see the powers, all Demos and Repubs worshipping and his body lies in state beneath the dome of the nation he helped destroy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I don't agree.
Nixon resigned to avoid impeachment.
Nixon and Ford didn't even like each other. Nixon chose Ford as his VP because he thought that it would keep him from being impeached.
