I have multiple versions of this on my computer right now- Update 6 and Update 9. Is it ok to uninstall Update 6 without causing any problems with the Java I have now?

Yes but you may have a little bit of a probelm with some of the apps that are still using the old version. Some programs have their own runtime installed along with it. The Java runtime you installed only work for apps that called for it. it doesn't overwrite the old version that were install by another programs. Anyway the newest version right now is update 10 !!!! 8-))))

Normally, the older version should be replaced by the newer version that you download, but it's okay to delete the older version. Worst case scenario: Runtime Environment malfuntions. Then all you have to do is remove Runtime and download the newest version from Java.

I don't think you'll have problems if you uninstall it. Even if it did, I would then uninstall all the versions then download the latest from:

http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp
