You NEED to go. Not just to talk about having irregular periods, but for your reproductive health! You could end up not spotting something that could have been prevented if you went to the gyno!

I started menstruating when I was 11 years old (I'm 32 now). I was never regular (28 days) with my periods unless I was on birth control pills.

Please go.

At 13 you may think that you are too young for many things but you are not. Obviously you started your period early and you need to get regulated soon. The first thing you should do is go NOW and sit down and talk to your mother. Tell her all of your concerns and ask her to take you to the best FEMALE gynecologist that she can find. You want one that you can really meet your needs as a young woman. Not that a man can't do that but a woman can identify with what you are going through.

Talk to your mother about birth control pills. They will regulate your periods. You do need something to help you. Remember, birth control pills are not a green light to go ahead and have sex. Your mother may be apprehensive about having her 13 year old taking birth control pills. So tread lightly when you approach her.

I trust that you are NOT sexually active at 13 so that should not be an issue.

Be careful during those long periods and take a vitamin, drink plenty of water, juice and eat veggies. You will also need to get plenty of sleep. Otherwise you will not feel well.

Good luck with this and YES INDEED! Go see a GYN soon!

You really should go see a gyno. Eventhough you are so young being put on the birth control pill isn't a bad idea. They really help to keep you on a regular schedule. Talk to your mom. The pill isn't always started just because you start having sex. And because you start taking the pill don't have sex! You are too young! You will eventually have to go so get in with a female doctor. And really...going to the gyno really isn't that bad.

Yes you should make an appointment with a gynecologist. If you are uncomfortable about it see a female one. I know I'd rather see a female for female problems.....

Kathryn Is there a reason why you choose to speak with a friend rather than your mom? Your doctor is there to advise whether you need to see a gynocologist and refer only if necessary. BUT Please speak with your mom.
