I've never heard this expression but it sounds like "the cat that swallowed the canary" or "you've got guilt written all over your face". It is quite probably a reference to the exploding ink-packs that banks slip into the cash when they're robbed. The thief goes to take the money out of the bag and KABLAMO! the ink-pack explodes, covering the thief with red ink.
