I mean they do star on movies, but lots and lots of celebs don't even go to college! And people who spend so much time in college like heart surgeons and laywers don't get half of what celbs do by saying two sentences in a movie. The money they get for saying two sentances in a movie is completly ridcoulus! I just think that people who learn and spend a lot of time in college to help other people and justify the law are a lot more important than actors who get $20 million for starrring a movie.

They only get that money due to economics. Some celebrities have an individual appeal and talent that cannot be replicated by anyone else - therefore their skills are rare and they get paid a lot of money if that particular skill is in demand. Think of how much NBA players get paid because they are better at something than everyone else. Actors can only demand $20 million if producers and studi heads are sure that their presence in a movie will put bums on seats and guarantee that the movie they have poured money into will turn a good profit. Tom Cruise may not be able to comand as much as he used to because peple now realise he is a brainwashed, bullying freak and he has lost some of his appeal to the movie going audience.

What the public wants, the public gets, and because we treat some career fields with such high regard, such as football players, actors, and so on, we have to pay the price.
A lot of people want to know everything about a celebrity, as if they are friends, and that we care about them. It's called snooping, and a lot of us do it. The paparazzia know that, and get thousands for the pictures that spike our interest. If everyone stopped, for one year, of going to the movies, reading the trash about all of these people, demanded ball players be paid only what a normal salary would be, there ;might be changes. If they were paid less, how wonderful it would be if everyone could then afford to go to ball games, movies, etc. There are people in the USA who cannot afford these amusements, because the players, actors, and so on get such high salaries.
Now, who will be first to turn our backs on all of this nonsense and bring salaries and prices down? Whoops, no one stepped up.
So, on and on it goes.
By the way, lawyers are not so great with their prices either. I have 8 years of college, and medical insurance will only pay me $25-35 an hour for treating someone with mental problems. Sadly, some lawyers earn much more, with less education.

Oh, well, back to your question....they aren't important. We just make them think they are.

Doctors and such should be rewarded more than an actor, but it's all business.
Singers and Movies stars, are in the public eye, and people worship them, and will buy anything related to them. Therefore they hold the power and can ask for as much money as they want.
Still doctors make a lot of money too, so no complaining.

They are imposrtant because we all have an image of stardom from being children and watching television. We forget that while we are at work 40+ hours a week they are getting facials, massages, hair treatments, private workouts with coaches, chef made food, whitened teeth, nose jobs, face lifts. I guess the point I'm trying to make is so much of it is fake. I give Paris Hilton one thing she has never had a boob job. She is who she is. Look at the Natural Beauty of Marilty Monroe, Sphia Lauren, etc. They deserved all the attention cause they worked their fanny's off to look that good. Compare Jennifer Lopez on Selena to the Jennifer Lopez of today. Take extra special attention to the teeth. That girl has had everything done. I know that Doctor's and surgeons and such get something from most of us that alot of people do not and that is our respect. Hope I didn't ramble to long! '-)

It's because we make them important. Paparazzi follow them to get their every movement, people gobble up the stories, their "value" skyrockets, and they collect a huge paycheck. If the public would stop caring about everytime Angelina Jolie farts, or Tom cruise takes a leak it might get more realistic. The Actors have become such publicity whores too. They know it all looks good to be talked about and they play into it.
The final say comes down to the public though, if we keep demanding the dirt on them it will be a continuous cycle.

unfortunately celebrity´s are role models for the younger generation. Because of this they have a massive influence on the public and can convince people to buy or do things they wouldn´t usually do . It would be better of course if they got paid half what they did and the rest of the money went to help communities or people that need it.
Like in Africa where the football teams they support are mainly English and the players could easily help support these families. Instead of going to strip clubs, holidays, booze trips etc

No human is superior than any other being. Even if the person didn't go to college, isn't able to get an education at all, or even known to millions it still doesn't make them any better than the person on the side of them. Even if the person is a doctor or lawyer doesn't make them special either and we can just shun other people.

Well that's because it's human nature to want to know other's business. You might not know John Soysauce, a surgeon that lives in China, but you do know Britney Spears. And I'm sure Britney's life is more contreversial. You must admit that you enjoy watching movies. I DON'T think celebs are all that great(most of them are HORRIBLE role models), but I don't hate them.

They are only as important as society makes them.

That said there are a lot of people in our society who are underpaid for the work they do, but most surgeons and lawyers are not one of them. How about the people who lay their lives on the line to protect us? How about the teachers who take care of our most precious children? How about foster parents and social workers? People who run non profits? Policemen and Firemen. The list could go on and on.

Because Hollywood holds these people out as idols - so we can worship them, and spend $ 11 bucks when their latest movies come to the local multiplex.
