Unfortunately, this is a very hard question to answer without being given any parameters here. An adult octopus can vary in size from one octopus to the next. Obviously, it depends on how big your octopus is to start with.

So I suggest using a formula. Take the radius of the octopus, which is measured from the center of its head to the outermost length of any one of its arms, and then multiply it by two. Take that number and add on 15 percent to compensate for octopus spreadage after being ironed. That should give you a figure close to what the end result will be.

However, I warn that ironing octopi is highly ill-advised. They are quite temperamental animals and don't respond very well to this process. You may end up with tentacle-face for a week and a huge mess of ink in your laundry room - and nobody needs that. You may want to consider ironing starfish or seahorses instead.

I'm glad we have some funny people on here tonight!! I've just seen a list, could you light a fire by rubbing 2 boyscouts together and how wide would an octopus be if you ironed it flat-genius! Someone is going round posting evidence of the us trying to cover up ufo's in Iraq too, that's what the war is all about! lol!

Anyway!....Umm I think about 10 ft wide, that's my guess.

Big. I mean, really long and big,....like so long you wouldn't believe...
Have you seen the BIG Octopus at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Cornwall ? It's tentacles seemed to be at least 2 metres long each, and its head/body part was big too......
Sooooooo, I'm going to hazard a guess at 6 to 8 metres wide (providing no starch is used)

P.S. that was 2 years ago, so they may have a different octopus by now : did you know the octopus has the same intelligence as a dog??

M : )

( also ,don't approve of your premise, but definitely would not like to be in the sea/pond anywhere near one of these , they are scary looking when big!)

how flat do you intend ironing it, what are we using for ironing, can it get the density to microns or less?

would say its more of a wide question than a useful 8 legged one.

femaels are larger than males as well, can you specify the sex?
