Could anyone tell me of any adverse effects to using products with Sodium Laureth Sulfate, or Sodium Laurel Sulfate? I have heard some bad things, and as I tend to be pro-natural/kosher/organic... I really wonder if anyone knows anything about this.
Also, what is the difference between the two?

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate~This chemical is a known skin irritant and enhances allergic response to other toxins and allergens. The U.S. government has warned manufacturers of unacceptable levels of dioxin formation in some products containing this ingredient. The chemical can react with other ingredients to form cancer-causing nitrosamines. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is used as a lathering agent. It is presently in 90% of commercial shampoos, as well as skin creams and toothpaste.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate may be contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, a carcinogen. SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE is a variation of SLS (Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate- SLES). It exhibits many of the same characteristics and is a higher-foaming variation of SLS.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Sodium Laurel Sulfate are the same thing. It is a detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products. It is also a very inexpensive and effective foamer.

The American Cancer Society has found the rumor about this product to be carcinogenic to be an urban tale.

Although, the site I looked at did state that this product can cause flare ups of skin conditions.

If you are looking for a really good non-toxic cleaning product you might want to try Holy Cow. It is sold at Wal-mart and Walgreens. You can also do a web search for Holy Cow products and order them online. I have used the glass cleaner and the surface cleaner and love it. This product was invented by a couple who wanted to involve their kids in cleaning without being exposed to toxins. At Wal-mart I paid $1.98 per bottle - so not only is the product great, so is the price! Check them out!

I have also heard there may be a cancer link.It is in shampoos and soaps also as it is the sudsing agent in any "cleaner". I found soap and shampoo without it in a health food store and also on QVC.com. Imus has a house cleaning line called Greening the Cleaning. I just bought some general purpose cleaner and I like it alot. That I found at Bed,Bath and Beyond.

I don't know the difference between the two, but I heard that they are bad for you, that they cause cancer. But I don't know if that's true or not. Those substances are found in garage floor cleaners. To remove dirt, grease, oil, etc. So they can't be too good for you.
