Is it possible that we have made up God in order to make ourselves feel better about the unknown? How can we ascribe a theology to an "omnipresent being"?

God is like NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle...and all the different religions are the teams in the NFL. He has no favorites and does not belong to any of them.

Yes...we made up God because we can't deal with our own mortality.

I don't think god can limit himself to any one religion. I also think that contrary to what you think, the invention of God is not made to feel ourselves better, but to frighten the sissies among us of that unknown. He is omnipresent because we need someones presence all the time or we feel lonely. God is an invention of a very sick and conniving person I'm afraid.

If there is a god which does have a religion, they would most likely be an atheist, due to the fact he has seen the result of all the worlds religions and, being god, he would know how irrelevant and useless religion is.

No, I don't think that people have made up God. there is a need in every one of us to worship the one true God, it's just that not everyone has found him. I believe that there is only one true God. I am a Christian and I believe that the ONLY way to heaven is through the power of Jesus Christ. I can not make you believe my faith but I know with every fiber of my being that Jesus is Lord. I would love to discuss this topic further with you, and I won't try to force it on you. feel free to contact me.
God Bless!!!

I believe in something greater than myself.
The core or essence of that greater power or energy is love.
Yes, the notion of "gods" began as a way to explain the unexplainable to primitive man.
It is human nature to want logical answers for our questions.
Especially the ones that are beyond our comprehension.
Religions served many purposes.
1) to bring people together,
2) to keep people apart,
3) to subjugate certain members of a society,
4) to serve as the form of guidance and control over society by the hierarchy of it's system.

Proof of your idea is that people only "find God" when they are at their worst.
