You will need a wireless card, which you will only be able to use around truck stops etc that have an open antenae or you can get the Verizon/Cingular etc service that works sort of like wireless. The card basically has its own phone number and connects into the network and allows you to browse etc while on the road.

My boss uses the latter all the time, as well as I have used his service when on the road. Works just like a wireless card.

My cell phone with sprint used to allow a modem connection that we could use while traveling. That was many years ago - it was slow with graphics, but good enough to find and make hotel reservations while in the car.
They probably have something better now. Look to a national cell phone providers, such as sprint or verizon to set you up.

Why don't you get one of those phone company cards that you can buy from sprint or any phone service and it just goes in you computer and you can use the internet. I don't know what they're called but you just put it in and take it out of your laptop.

You need a wireless provider such as Cingular or Verizon and buy one of their PCMCIA cards to get the internet signal to your laptop. It ain't cheap, but that's the price you pay for convenience.
