...and isn't that what a celebration is?

We do, but New Year's Eve is the anniversary of our first kiss, so it's basically an excuse to get an even better bottle of champagne than usual.
We stay in and celebrate at home, rather than risking the roads and all the people coming home from their own parties. We start with some kind of festive dinner, plus after-dinner treats and nibbles, and check the countdown on various Web sites and TV shows. And now that we've got kids (obviously it was some kiss!), we watch "the ball drop" at midnight on the East Coast (that'd 9 PM Pacific, where we are), everybody shoots off those poppers that spray you with paper streamers, and we all yell "HAPPY NEW YEAR!"
Then my wife and I put the kids to bed and stay up till midnight, share that better than usual bottle of champagne, and remind each other why the whole kissing thing is worth celebrating. :-)
Before that, though, we do something else that has become a family tradition: we go around the family giving and getting acknowledgment. That is, for all five of us, we have the opportunity to acknowledge anyone (or any several) in the family for remarkable things they accomplished or achieved during the year. We also are allowed to ask to be acknowledged for something we felt WE did that was valuable or important, and which may have gone either unnoticed or at least "unsung," if you will. It's a great way to close off the year and say anything you haven't yet said, or hear anything you haven't yet heard, with the people who care about you the most. Then we declare the year complete and start the party!

I know that I don't, or maybe I do, I call all my friends and family that are far away from me to tell them happy new year. That's all I do.
