Better for what? Getting ahead or being happy? Certainly being highly educated correlates to getting ahead in life (i.e. making more money) but does not necessarily correlate to being happier and more balanced. I would choose being very wise as a personal choice, as I have lived long enough to know that for myself, more things have not led to happiness, while wisdom does lead to having less of a need for riches. Also the wise will always seek meaningful education because to be wise is to value the things of real importance. Education is only one item in a balanced life.

Sounds like there are a lot of people answering who are not highly educated. It's always better to be educated. Wisdom comes from education. You can't truly understand ideas or concepts until you've been exposed to many through education. I can ALWAYS tell, when I talk to someone, whether or not they are college educated. "Wisdom" and "street smarts" are just buzz words that uneducated people use because deep down they're jealous of the educated. Sorry, but true.

I know a lot of "educated" people but they are only book smart, they have no street sense or no common sense or compassion towards others. There is a big difference between being educated and being wise....I would rather be wise than educated. I don't know if that is better for everyone, but my conscience says it's better for me...

Wise is definately better. I know of many cases where "education" was a big detriment. i.e. the Ford Focus, The "War on Terror", New Coke, The "War on Drugs", The Unabomber, etc. All came from "highly educated" people. But Bill Gates was a drop out......

LOL funny question. Education goes only so far. If you are too concerned with books and learning rather than living when something comes around you havent read about or learned about you wont know whats happening.
Wisdom comes with learning from what life gives you. A wise person can twist and manipulate for making things better for themselves.

I think it is being wise. My husband has a wonderful college education but absolutely no street smarts and no common sense. Because of this I cannot go in to his place of business. His employees lie to him and the do all types of things that I cannot tolerate. I point them out but he ignores me. He just had an employee who had a baby. She came in 3 days later with a note from her OBGYN saying she could return to work. Every one but my husband knew it was a lie. But his college education will not let him see the obvious.

Wise. Education is being filled up with the knowledge of others. Wisdom is the ability to learn it on your own.

I believe that they go hand in hand to educate your self is wise and wisdom comes over time, you can not have one with out the other. It a matter of how much knowledge dose one posses and apply, which in turn creates a circumstances that would require wisdom. For example lets say you are a commander of a battle field you are very intelligent but you also have many years of battle under your belt it's that wisdom in conjunction to you intelligence that will allow you to prevail over your enemy.

Being very wise is far more helpful. You may not understand things as in-depth as others, but you will be able to tell what is most important.
