A very healthy horse, depending on breed, could live happily into its thirties. Where I work, we have a Shetland Pony that is 34 years old.

Also, I am speaking a horse in its thirties without any health conditions, whether physical or internal.

It depends on what the horse has done throughout their life. Most show jumper horses or horses that have a fairly stressful life (no offense to show jumpers, i show too and jump but not excessively or intensely) tend to live mainly into their 20's whereas a horse that relaxes and has a fairly laid back life and proper care tends to live longer. We've had a horse that lived to be 36 and we also have a neighbor up the rode from us that has two horses 23 and 38. Those two are still going strong (even the 38 year old) b/c they live in their natural environment and live a very stress free life. Sorry to answer your short question with such a long answer but there really is no main age, it just depends on what they do in life. Also, I don't know if this is true or not but I did hear of this one horse living to be 42!!

just depends on quality of care. usually 25-30 years is average for a horse that has been well taken care of. my first horse died at the age of 27. we had a lesson horse that was 29 when we sold him and he is still alive and giving ridding lessons to children that are 2-5 years old. he is very healthy and has been takin good care of for along time. he is 31 now. but for the most part the average is 25-30. ponies can live up to 40 years old

My horse was 26 when he died of old age. I had had him since he was 2.

I have heard of some horses (ponies not included) living well into their 40s.
