I love cricket - but now that I live in the US - our lifestyle is far too fast paced for a game like Cricket. It takes too long which is why most here find it boring.
In many other places in the world, life is slower so they have more time to take in a game like cricket. In the US that's a luxury.
But while ardent cricket lovers would like to believe otherwise - cricket is only really a big deal in a very few countries. Only the ten major test playing countries and a dozen or so others.
Even basketball - a beloved american sport is enjoyed by far more countries. I guess cricket is like baseball in that it is also followed only in less than a quarter of the world's countries.

It all depends upon ones interest. Somebody may be liking football, some may be liking baseball etc. Similarly some people like cricket. The people who are interested in cricket and love the game so much will never feel the game as boring whereas people who do not have any interest may feel that it is a boring game and watching the same is waste of time.

my american friend who i am teaching how to play this game.. even admits he has a short attention span .. and to be honest thats the biggest reason americans dont like this sport..
First of there are 3 different versions of the game..
Test Matches(5 Days)= are for players themselves(most if not all international players believe Test Cricket is IT) reason for that is cause it a "TEST" of endurance, stamina, skills, mental toughness, concentration, patience, and strategic planning, all the fans that are purists of the game love this form of cricket. (Trust me its not easy to be standing out under the hot sun for 5 hrs , its drains so much out of u, some times u cant even think straight, yet u still have to bat , field and bowl)
One Day format(6-7 hrs)= Different strategies are used, Skill set is the same but batters and bowlers have to play with little extra aggression and toughness, different rules are used in this format compared to Test Match format. its fast paced compared to test cricket.
Twenty/20(2-3 hrs)= This is a pure slugfest, no boring moment in this format of the game, pretty much a sellout whenever there is a twenty/20 match.. as far as strategies go, this format has very little to do with strategies, its all about hitting, best example..imagine u going to a Baseball Game and a pitcher is Not allowed to throw a pitch outside of the strike zone and a Batter has to swing for it..
too bad americans still believe that all cricket matches last for 5 Days, otherwise they might enjoy this part of 'cricket'. lol

Cricket is is really easy to understand and follow. Yes Test cricket can be boring, but for the enthusiast's its great. One day cricket is fun and is a shorter version of the long game.

There's a WHOLE nuther world of stuff besides "boring" cricket outside the US !
Sorry... USA ..do whatever it is you have do to put bums on seats in sport (relative to your country).... I for one am more than happy for you to be bored, indifferent and obtuse about cricket - the less you know....the longer it remains unsullied.
