I just bought a new tabletop water cooler from Wal Mart, and a 5 gallon bottle of Hinckley water from the Home Depot to install on it. I followed the manufactures cleaning instructions before use, and before installing the water bottle. The water tasted great for the first couple of days, but now has a bad aftertaste. Should i flush the cooler out again, and install a new bottle of water? Does this water have a shelf life? Could i have gotton some bad water?

Craig:

Everything that you mentioned to remedy the problem is well within reason. When in doubt, return the water cooler and start over with the process and a different name brand of water. I will say though that most bottle water being shelved today are without chlorine so if the cooler is without a filtering system well then I guess it is reasonable that the water it contains could become contaminated if it is not used within a reasonable time.

Hinckley water comes from White Rock, close to Chicago,, Ill..
they 'say' it is spring water,, many companys take the water right out of the tap or 'spring' and bottled it without any treatment or puritication! not syaing they did but it happens,
I had a bottled that I left by my computer for 4 days and when I remembered about it I noticed a lot of green scum floating around!!
Those waters can go bad!! and the filter that came with the cooler could have gotten contaminated,, so clean and replace filter,,, try another bottle of same and/or different waters!!!

well the water tasted ok for a couple of days.Seems like the cooler is somehow spoiling the water.Check filters, rinse thoroughly.I would try the water from the container,to see if it's ok before disposing it.Water does'nt get contaminated in a cooler, unless there's a fault in the system

Scary. I wouldn't keep drinking that. Take action man!
Good luck.

After thinking about what I said I may be forced to retract that because I often drink out of the toilet and don't really mind that aftertaste. Oh well.
