How long will this be....just this episode or for a few or forever? I don't think the show can survive without Petersen as Grissom. Some info on this would be nice.

He will be gone for three episode to do a play. They said the timing was perfect since it seemed that Grissom's character was starting to get overworked and extremely tired. The plot will be that he is going to be teaching a class but will come back when he realizes that it isn't what he wanted.

According to TV Guide he will be away from CSI for several episodes to do theatre. He'll be back. Let him pursue something fresh so when he returns we can enjoy him after his break and he will probably bring a freshness to Grissom's character.

He wants time away from the show to be in a play. I don't know how long he'll be gone but I'm pretty sure it's not permanent.
The show will be fine without him. The other characters are great on there own.
