A friend took his truck to the shop and they put it on the computer and told him there wasnt any thing wrong with it and then suggested acompression check which they said took 4 hrs and costed $300...did he get screwed?

A compression check for a gasoline motor is much easier than one on a diesel motor due to the fact that the injectors or glow plugs have to be removed to compression test. It does sound high, but at 90 dollars an hour for labor any more it probably is correct.

it wouldnt be necessary to do a compression check unless there was a power loss issue, rough running issue, oil consumption issue, or uneven idle. what was thre reason to take the truck to the shop in the 1st place? had to have a check engine lite on or something to do a diagnostic test. if you think you got a bad diagnostic, then go to another shop.

hope he got a kiss with that screwing. best thing he can do is find a international truck dealer to look at it. they make the engine and ford dealers don't seem to be able to do much
