My 13year old has a lot of problems with his archilles heal. Could wearing flat or "skater shoes" be the reason for tenderness in this area?

Yes, it can cause problems now and later on when he gets older much more problems. You may want to buy some support to put inside his shoe if he doesnt want to change the style of shoes hes wearing now. This can cause heel spur, plantar fasciitis, is inflammation of the fascia of the plantar of the foot, very painful at times, of course heel spur, which unless with surgery, they cant be removed. So even though hes still growing is good now to get him use to these arches in his shoes.

I would say that it could be a possibility it is best to get that checked out by your doctor.

My daughter has flat feet and both her ankles are turned in so it is important for me to buy good quality shoes although they are expensive with good ankle suport and support in the arch of the foot. This will help her foot grow correctly.

As your sons foot is still developing it is best to get shoes that fit properly so that foot problems don't occur later on in life. You can get sports shoes that do support the ankle and foot but once again these can be expensive and in a young teenage boys eyes look untrendy. But if it means preventing problems you might have to be cruel to be kind by making him wear untrendy shoes.

Good luck

YES,and when I was young, a Dr.advised me to wear arch supports and I suffered it out for some years, finally though I had no other choice and purchased some in a pharmacy at the time for approx $15.00 .You can go to a foot Dr.and pay much more but the ones I purchased for that amount allowed me to get several pairs. Hope this helps.------PS these days they will cost aprox 25

Its my smash day in the present day so am donning sparkly turn flops as I even have these days had a nail clipping and my painted toe nails seem advantageous. If I have been at artwork i could be donning medium heeled wedges that are a beige shade.
