My mother loves fish and lots of my friends have and like fish as pets. I dont get it! Will someone please enlighten me to the thrill of coming home to a glass box full of cat food?

It's a lot more thrilling than to come home to a glass box full of stupidity (television). Admittedly one fish in a bowl (unless it's a betta) isn't very exciting to watch. But we have three schools of tetras in a large (75 gallon) tank that are endlessly fascinating to watch. It's a similar type of fascination that has people staring into campfires watching the flames dance. Fish keeping can go deeper than that, though - tropical freshwater fish come from exotic lands all over the world and there is a challenge in providing them with a home similar to their natural habitat. When fish breed, whether by accident or design, it gives a feeling of satisfaction - like being a good "parent" - in having provided the fish with all they need to feel comfortable and secure enough to breed.

Interestingly enough, my cat has her own five gallon tank. It's full of guppies and ghost shrimp and she exhibits no interest whatsover in the inhabitants, only drinks the water. She won't drink water from anywhere else. For food, she prefers the soft catfood from PetSmart. (fish flavour)

well i have fish but i'm not sure they r a thrill. if u have an aquarium in ur home, turn off all the lights except for the aquarium light and just sit there watching the fish tank, they say it has a very calming effect on a bad day at the office.

Watching them is very relaxing and maybe that's the way they view their fish. People keep all sorts of pets for all sorts of reasons that's the beauty of human nature we are all unique individuals. I find the beauty in watching them exist but I don't have fish at the present moment, I will be putting in a pond outside and having fish in that. They are peaceful relaxing creatures who eat mosquito larvae reducing the population of insects who spread disease but that's a side issue :-). Did you know that fish can be trained? They aren't silly and Mythbusters proved that goldfish have more than a short memory span, yes more trivia. Tropical fish are awesome in their coloring and coexistence. To create a living diorama in your home is spectacular.

it kinda like designing! you take a glass "box" as u call it and make it beautiful by adding plants and rocks and colorful and interesting fish and invertabrates like snails. I have an aquatic frog in my tank and he is really fun to watch move around!

some people also make a tank kinda into there baby! they start out bar and tehy make it flourish into a big beautiful home for fishy friends!

plus aquariums look good in a room!
