I want to make electronica powerpop, but all I can afford is a 200 dollar keyboard. Anyone have any experience with synthesizers, and tell me what I need? Any computer programs that would help me for now?

Maybe try having an original style of music instead of duplicating something that's already been done.

Innovation drives the world, Duplication fosters mediocrity.

Obviously recording gear is expensive, but this is what I use to record. Pro Tools on my laptop with an mbox2, boss drum machine, cheap keyboard, guitars, bass, and a few shure sm58's and 7's. There is a lot of software out there. A lot of people just use garageband on their macs to do simple recordings. Synthesizers can get pricy so maybe just buying a little digital four or eight track might be good to start out with. Then a cheap keyboard and a few other things.
