I read because sometimes I hate life. Reading just takes you to another place, where you can forget about your problems for a while, and see other people or characters living theri life, their situations. And it feels good. Plus, sometimes you can even get an advice, idea, or something like that.
And it helps in writing. =P

And when the book you are reading is weel-written, it's even better!

I've heard people say, "Why read a book when you can watch tv? It's the same thing-you just get the information faster". A book allows you to really get inside a person's head and know what the characters are feeling.

Also, books are specific. What I mean is........ for example, let's say you and a friend look at a piece of art. You may both be looking at the same thing, but you view it in different ways. Books can give you a new view of something old; they can be very inspring.

I became an avid reader in elementary school and have never let up. I enjoy opening a book and falling under its spell. I don't read mainstream fare where the author cranks 'em out just for the paycheck. I like the books where the authors fall in love with their characters, like Larry McMurtry with "Lonesome Dove" "Terms of Endearment, and the "Sin Killer" series.

In learning about the characters I usually learn something about myself.

I hate reading, honeslty, BUT I love information. I usually get bored when I read, but wether it's a gothic novel, or a book that talks about a certain subject of my interest, I still read because I love gaining information, and with gothic novels, since I'm an artsy person, I love getting the images in my head as I read. I still get bored sometimes, but I just love where the books take me sometimes, or what the books can teach me. It's highly addictive since my brain hungers for information, but at the same time, my mind gets bored when reading.

I enjoy a good story, whether fiction or fact, and I learn a lot from the author's inclusion of facts, and I learn more words, and see things in a different light. It passes a lot of extra time.
