Hard to say what is THE most expensive freshwater aquarium fish, since there are many which cost over $100 per fish (such as zebra plecos, wild caught full grown zaire blue frontosas, and many other exotic species of fish).

Acquiring a breeding group of these type of fish (and other "expensive" fish) can cost a bundle and are therefore usually owned by serious, dedicated hobbyists and experienced breeders.

There's a fish store not too far away from here that has a blue-eyed pleco for sale for $1000. That would be for one of two reasons, no-one is quite sure which: a/the blue-eyed pleco comes from a river in Columbia which is now under drug-lord control and no-one can get in there to catch more OR b/the blue-eyed pleco comes from a river in Columbia that was destroyed by a toxic chemical spill from a gold mining company and is now virtually extinct.

A blue-eyed pleco grows to about 24" so you need a fairly large indoor aquarium...

I have paid $100.00 for some fairly rare African Cichlids. However, the really pricey fish don't make it to the USA,Singapore and Japan probably have the highest prices for freshwater fish, with Xingu River catfish selling for over $1,000.00 and Koi as expensive as big luxury cars. If fish prices at the local level interest you, find an aquarium society or fish club and attend some of the auctions. Have fun,PeeTee

I would have to say some types of older KOI(goldfish), although I dont keep goldfish. Zebra Plecos can get pricey. I do own a Synodontis Granulosus, which can run as high as $300 retail. It just depends on where your at, availability, and aquarium breedability plays a good part in pricing. They go as high as people are willing to pay LOL.

i could say betta! they're alluring fish and are very energetic. as long as your domicile temperature remains at seventy two-80 two levels the fish could be advantageous. somewhat uncomplicated to feed and could stay in a bowl. the choose arises to function some rocks or a pretend plant to make issues look energetic and supply the betta some thing to swim around. All in all a betta is a brilliant determination.
