I have a laptop with a wireless internet connection through a netgear router. I also have a desktop that's connected to the netgear router. How do I set up the computers to be able to share files and a printer without having them physically connected by a wire? Is this possible?

The way you are set up it seems you already have created a network using your netgear. Connect the printer to your desktop and just right click on the printer (from the desktop) and share it. You should be able to see the printer from your laptop.

Drag the files you want to share to the "shared folder". You should then be able to see those files when you go to My Network places.

This are simplified instructions so just ask if you need more.

Connecting 2 computers is convenient for transferring files, making backups of data, sharing resources like a printers and CD Writers. Multi-user games can be played over networked computers and a single internet connection can be shared between the computers. Depending on the resources available and applications, there are different methods for connecting 2 computers. More information at http://fixit.in/connect2computers.html

Yes wireless networks can share files and printers the same as a wired network like mis d said just right click on your printer (wherever the file is and hit shared) put files you want to share in the shared foler and in the shared folder on the other comp there should be a folder with the files from the other comp in there.

I had a friend set up my computer to act as a hub to my laptop. I was able to wirelessly access my printer. It is a bit more complex than what the previous two answers were, but I don't know. I would like to know as well, so I will just point out that I have gone to my printer and chose share. Just don't know what to do after this.
