My husband and I work together. We manage apartments. I am the manager and he does the maintenance. I am always covering for him because he never does what he's supposed to be doing.I actually get out there and handle my job and his. He has told me he is the laziest person he knows. He sleeps all day, then complains that I'm making him look bad. I'm dammed if I do and dammed if I don't. Frankly, I'm getting burned out! I'm beginning to almost hate him. What would you do?

That is very easy to answer for me, but not so easy for YOU to enforce. Most likely you are too lenient. Sounds like this has been going on for a while .The longer you wait the harder it is because he is used to his loafing ways and of course does not want to give it up .
Literally sit him down on a chair facing you and have a pen and paper in your hand on which you have previously written out some of the main reasons for having this little conference . Make it look official by looking good yourself and not all worn out and bedraggled . He is supposed to see what he is losing in you !
No point in hating him. You do this to yourself.(sorry) ; Don't let him sleep all day. Give him an ultimatum and be ready to enforce it . He knows he is a parasite and a gold brick-er . He also knows you are a soft touch . Quit it . QUIT IT .
I suppose you have a family and do all that too . Brother would he get the heave ho from most women nowadays .
Rule number one: no more sleeping during the day .

Get another maintenance man. Tell your husband this isn't working and make him get a job in the real world where there is nobody to cover for him. You aren't doing him any favors by letting him be a slug. What if some big corporation moves in and buys out your apartments and brings their own management staff in? You will both be out of a job and you will be carrying the load alone!

He sounds completely worthless and lazy.

Do you own the apartments that you are managing? If not, I would tell him that you are no longer covering for him. It is his responsibility to do his own job. It is not your responsibility to do yours and his. Let him get fired. If he's mad at you; break up with him....and then sue him for alimony so his wages get garnished.

He needs to act like a man and do an honest day's work.

Lazy ***-tard. Send him over here and I'll kick some sense into him.

You can never change him or make him more ambitious.

If one of you doesn't get a different job, you will hate him soon (you might anyway).

Figure out why you were attracted to a loser to begin with, then either love him for that, or kick him out and find another guy that isn't a loser.

Tell him you won't tolerate his passive aggresive behavior anymore. Also tell him you won't make him look bad by doing his work anymore. Make him do it. (You might also look for an apartment for one person because if that doesn't work, you'll both be out of a job.) Good luck and be strong.

Wait, YOU'RE making HIM look bad? Who's the manager here? Tell him to get back on track or your careers AND your marriage will suffer.

As long as you're covering him, you're pampering his irresponsibility and laziness also. So find a real maintainance man. Let him get angry if he wants when he finds out. He needs to learn abt responsibility and consequences!

Make him get his *ss up and earn his share. They could still fire him and hire another handyman. They will just raise your rent. Put an ad in the paper for the hell of it to scare him to his senses.

Stop covering for him. Just stop. Explain to him you're doing your own job from now on. And see what happens.

Is this the way he acts in your marriage? Doesn't keep his word, criticizes you unjustly...?
