Go see a gyne
The pill will reduce your cramping, and make your periods more regular. Some people (but not all) gain weight, have tender breasts, get more moody when they take the pill, but this is different for everyone.
you need to start the pill on the sunday after your next period starts, so you might not get any relief for this exam season. If you know it's coming, take some Midol and buck up and get through your exams.
You need a thorough physical from a gynecologist before ANY doctor or clinic will prescribe the pill to you.

I wouldn't recommend it. Just personally. I took the pill for 3 years, and it gave me high blood pressure, and though it is rare, it also made me very ill when I stopped taking it finally.
If your exam is in 3 weeks, you probably won't be able to start your script, and just starting BC pills, you will probably not feel so hot while your body adjusts to the medication. Many women experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, spotting, and irritability when starting the pill. Which, tapers off once you adjust to them, but it can be unpleasant when you first start taking them.
Instead, try loading up on vitamins (B complex, calcium, magnesium) that are known to alleviate PMS symptoms, starting now. Usually, bad periods are a sign of a vitamin deficiency. Also, a dose of ibuprofen (advil) will help with the pain, and should actually slow down the effects of your cycle for a day or so.
As far as being on the pill, you will have your period like clockwork every month after you have adjusted to them (assuming they don't have to change your pill, some women need to try several before their body will accept one.) Your periods will be lighter, shorter, and less painful, but once you are off the pills if you have not addressed what is causing you the pain in the first place, it will just go back to the way it was.
Good luck

It is possible to take the birth control pills (not the 1 wk or placebos) constantly so that each pack will last only 3 weeks. This will prevent you from getting your period and has not shown to have any adverse effects. Its been documented that people have gone over 6 months without having a period with no negative health problems.
As for the pill itself, there is a bunch of possible side effects. They range from weight gain to head aches to mood changes, but they all tend to be minor.
If you got the pills you can start them right away. When they change color (most do for the week of placebos) thats when you period will come.

Don't take the shot (as the first answerer Heather suggests). Even though it means no periods, it seriously messes up your system. (trust me, I was on it for four years of he**).
You really should take your pills like suggested on the packaging. Don't do what some have suggested with delaying when to start them as it DOES mess up your system. (Been there done that as well. didn't take the placebo pills and started a new pack, haven't been back on track yet!).

as far as your exam, I can't really speculate, but...I can sugest getting on the depo shot for birth comtrol.
For most people it makes them stop having periods all together. It has for me. I don't get cramps anymore either. My period is gone, I didn't experience any side effects like weight gain or anything that you hear about that girls get when going on the pill.
I really like the depo shot. I HATE getting shots, but it's only once every 3 months and not that bad.
good luck

that sucks..i don't know.. may well be you ought to pass without the pill for a month and see if something adjustments? i could pass with Maple Leaf's answer, ask a pharmacist or your gynecologist i've got been on the pill Yasmin for 5 years straight away (I ought to for well-being motives) and that i've got by no skill experienced any area outcomes, i've got been to countless gynecologists and that i've got been informed it grew to become into the pill with the backside dose and the least area outcomes. its meant to be a large selection for women persons who journey damaging outcomes from different oral contraceptives because of the fact it contains drospirenone, despite it quite is lol. extra suitable to ask your surgeon however wish u get extra suitable!

Despite what the others say, I have started taking contraceptive pills to delay my period (went on vacation). It was my first time taking birth control also, and I was able to delay it for the entire 2 week vacation and finish the pack (21 pills) without any period, so its possible!

i think its too late for that....try being really active up intill that time, jog for at least 25-30 minutes a day, that will help make ur period less painful, and not as severe, also, stay away from caffeine, sodas, coffee, chocolate (horrible, i know). thats probably ur best bet. good luck :)
