I'm doing the legal documents myself, I have one child but we already settled child support and custody through the texas attorney general office. the forms are confussing, just need to know the right form to use. i've been to the court house with no luck. I'm leaving on a budget so i can't afford a lawyer. legal aid is out of the question since they are over loaded and have no funding.

You can also contact a nearby university with a law dept for either a sr law student or paralegal. It may cost you a little but well worth it in the long run. They may even helpyou fill them out correctly for the same price. Worth the call. Good luck

That's a tough situation. My advice: you can get a simple divorce done by an attorney VERY cheap (usually $250-500). You should be able to come up with that much between you and your soon-to-be-ex, even if it takes a few months.

Without any funding at all, you're going to have to fall back on internet information sources, legal aid (which will take a long time, for the reasons you mentioned), and a friendly face at the courthouse. It's going to be VERY difficult to get specific advice in this forum. Wish I had better answers, but those are the facts, unfortunately.

Get the "do-it-yourself divorce" book, it has all forms and tells you how to fill them out so that they are done correctly and not wasting you or the courts time.

Available at your local library for copying or local bookstore for buying ($25)

Call attorneys and ask to speak to the attorney or para legal. They can tell you what forms you need.
