I have a Chef upright gas oven/cooktop combo... basically it is working, the gas element in the oven lights, and it is great to heat up stuff or make casseroles... but I cant seem to bake anything... I cooked a roast chicken...after 6 hours it was still not cooked... and I tried a pavlova and a cake, and both came out flat as a pancake (and yes I do know how to cook!) .... I cant work it out... as it will bake small pies etc no problem.... but for other stuff it wont!!!!??? Please help!! Thanks.

Get an oven thermometer from the supermarket and see if it reaches the temperatures that you set on the dial. If not, the thermostat is hosed.

There may be a secondary pilot in the upper burner assembly that my not be functioning properly. If this is the case then it will not allow gas to flow (explosion hazard).

If possible unplug the oven. Take the upper burner assembly off and see if it looks at all damaged or not. I'd take the unit to a service parts outlet and tell them what's happening, it sounds like an easy fix.

Worst case is the upper burner needs to be replaced.

Well here goes. My oven stopped working and the repair person said I could trick my oven by using the timed bake function instead of bake. You chould try that. Also get a thermometer, so you can monitor where your oven is. You can just put one inside. I have one so I can see where the heat really is not just where the dial is.

I fixed my moms oven one time. It had to have a new safety valve. and the new valve had to be adjusted . you had to get it to light and look at the flame and turn the nut at the base of the burner till the flame came up to the spreader.
