The chances of it being genuine is slim. There are the originals, then the late 1800's copies, then copies made before the Hobby Protection act and finally ones made after that act, that have the word copy on them some place. Some were minted in 1876, they are from the Dickeson copy dies. Then there is the infamous Bashlow copies of 1961-62 from a copy die made from the Dickeson copy die. I have some from the 1876 group as well as Baslows copies. There are others out there and a lot of them are poor quality. You need to have a dealer look at it that know colonial coins, or have it sent in to be looked at, by a profession service like ANACS . Try a few coin dealers first to see if it is worth paying to have it authenticated.

The coin must be worth in the hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars since it is from the 17th century.
