I have windows 2000 professional.it seems like when I added a printer before I was able to bring up a list of printers, point to the one I have and it added it to my computor. I recently had to reinstall windows 2000. this time the wizard asked if the printer was hooked up right now. When I hooked it up it brought up that I have the HP 610c. I have HP612C. when it prompted me to do a test page I said yes and it printed it perfect but when I tryed to print one of my e-mails all it did was print a couple letters and symbols. how can I bring up the list of printers like I did before?

Go to the HP website and download the proper driver and software for it.

Go to http://www.hp.com website and click support tab-write your model number of printer and click go.when prompted-click your operating system you use. When driver or a software page appear..look for the latest release and click to download, when you download..click save and than run or open.Or insist hp to download and install-connect your device.Or go to control panel- and open printers and other software.Click it and see if your printer is added if not so from the side panel select the tab to add a printer.

Check in your "printer options" or your "add a printer" in your systems preferences.

also checking the drivers is a good idea. often windows and other systems don't really run a check for new drivers.
