If my mp3 player is not hooked up to anything and the headphones are not plugged in should I still be able to hear the music?

Unless you use AUX, then nope

It depends on the mp3 you have. i had an mp3 and in mine u coodn't it was a samsung... but if u hav an ipod video u can defenitly listen to it without headfones if u conect it to ur computer and go to itunes..

What type do you have? If it's an Ipod, then no.
