Various stores such as Best Buy and Walmart have cleaning fluids and spray cans designed just for cleaning computers and laptops. There are also products meant to be used for LCD and Plasma televisions that you can buy.
If you have a bottle of cleaning fluid given to you by your optometrist (meant for your glasses), you can use that on the laptop screen as well.
I have even used Windex and it has not hurt the monitor (although I am not sure I would recommend it to someone for a laptop).
However, whatever you use, make sure that you never spray directly onto the monitor or PC. Instead, spray some of the fluid onto a cotton towel, tissue or paper towel and use that to gently wipe off any finger prints or spots that have appeared on the monitor. I would also recommend doing this while the laptop is turned off, since when it is on there may be a static build-up which will then gather dust and lint from the tissue, or the cold fluid touching the warm screen could cause an issue with the glass.

I've found that about a 50/50 split of isopropyl alcohol and Water tends to work if you have a good Lint-free cloth.
I've also heard that eyeglass cleaner works (which is practically the concoction that I have above.)
Do not use ammonia. It could damage your screen. That means window cleaners like Windex is out.
Here's some tips:

EDIT:
As to the person who said not to use alcohol, I highly disagree. I could understand your concern with the other parts of the laptop, but in the case, you must be careful as to where you wipe. If you look at the ingredients of all of those commercial laptop screen cleaners, you will find that they are practically what I stated, and my mix has worked perfectly fine for me and for others.

A duster works great! If you do have to use a fluid to cleane stains such as chocolate, then just use a bit of water on a soft cloth. Remember not to press too hard.

Depends on what type of screen you have! Consult your manual, the mfg knows whats best and if you dont know what you are doing, you can detroy your screen! Someone stated alcohol, NOT! Some plastics do not fair well with alcohol!
