depends how much money you want to spend. you could buy a crate 572 if you wanted to, but you would have to modify engine mounts and such. Id say put an LS1 or LS6.. or if you can afford it the LS2 or LS7

I'm not sure where you live, but in some states you are not allowed to put an older engine in a newer vehicle, for example, you might want to put a 455 from a 1970 Pontiac in your Bird, but due to the emission laws you cannot, because it doesn't meet the EPA air standards of the year of your Bird, thus you cannot put this engine in.If I were you,I would check the laws in your state regarding engine swaps. Here in NJ your vehicle must meet the air quality standards of the year your vehicle was made. This is all
thrown out the window of course, if you buy a crate engine and ask questions about what it will fit into. Most crate engines can be made to satisfy the EPA and the air standards of whatever state you live in.If you had a pre smog Bird, you could put in just about anything you wanted to under the hood.

I'm sure the ZZ572R will fit in there. That monster is a 572 c.i. 720hp big block. I'm not sure what all the install would take though.

If you want to play it safe, I know you could just get an LS2 stroker in there. Maybe even the new Z06 engine, the LS7 427.

Unless you have completely blown the LS1 that is in it (assuming it is a V8 Firebird), I'd consider just modding that engine before buying a new engine.

Well the one that is in it is best. When you get into changing engings you have to change something. If say you put in a 350, the ex must be changes the trans, the mounts all this must be changes.
Take it from a mechanic. Unless you want to change a lot of things leave it alone, or plan on spending some big bucks to change the engine.

World Products makes a 454 cubic inch small block chevy. In the Summit catalog, a 600 hp 454 c.i.d. crate motor goes for $10,000. I'm pretty sure a small block chevy would fit in there. Check out Summit Racing for more info.
