I was just in Las Vegas this past October and I stayed at The Orleans which is about 1 mile off of the strip. I paid $89 a night for a room with two double beds and a pull out sofa. There is a free shuttle (though they do accept "tips") that runs numerous times throughout the day from the hotel to the Barbary Coast right on the strip. I liked that the Orleans was a smaller casino and easier to get around than the bigger Strip hotels. Good value in my opinion.

If you are driving or you are willing to take shuttle buses the Gold Coast and The Orleans are good values near the Strip. Not only are their rooms less expensive, and yet good, but their restaurants are also cheaper. They run frequent shuttles to the Strip, but that still takes time.
On the Strip there's Circus, as has been mentioned. You may also find special rates at the Flamingo, Imperial Palace, Barbary Coast, or even the Aladdin. The Aladdin is the best of the bunch, even with the construction that has been going on for over a year.

Circus Circus is always cheap but fairly clean and nice...and at the other end of the strip. The Monte Carlo is a couple of steps up but reasonable. Then the Luxor usually has excellent rates for what they offer. You can always stay at an Embassy Suites or Days Inn that do not have Casinos and those are clean, nice but very reasonable.

Circus Circus is once of the cheaper deals... just avoid the tower rooms. They are a long walk from the main hotel and not very safe walk at that.
The other cheapie hotel on the strip would be Tropicana. My friend is going there New Year's day and staying for $35/night. They aren't high class but I'd take them over Circus Circus anyday!
Good luck!

Circus Circus would be the cheapest. I have stayed there and it was actually pretty decent. They usually have specials that can average about 40 bucks a nite. The indoor theme park was interesting and you can always take yourself down the strip to the luxury casinos.

We flew from Pennsylvania to Vegas, plus 7 nights in a suite at the MGM--cost only $615 per person! I thought that was very cheap. We booked through Hotwire and they were very good to deal with--contacting us each time the flight time changed, etc.

What dates do you need the hotel? What is your price range? What amenities are you looking for? Where is your friend getting married/where are the events taking place? How do you plan to get around? How many of you are there?
"Add details" and I will see what I can come up with for you..
